Mista Melmë

grey love

In Elvish, Mista Melmë means grey love. And I couldn't have found a better name for what Saarloos wolfdogs have done to my life. For me, breeding isn't just about litters. It's a place where dogs, people and their stories meet: walks together, owners who still get in touch years after taking their puppy home, and puppies that will never stop being "mine".

Saarloos are part of my everyday life, not dogs kept off to one side. When I plan a litter, I think about health, temperament and genetic diversity. But I can't promise you a ready-made dog that's afraid of nothing, and I don't want to.

My girls

My girls are, above all, part of the family. They share my everyday life and come with me on trips, into town and on my travels. Three generations of females live together at home – each with her own personality, but all of them an inseparable part of Mista Melmë.

Litters

Our litters

Each of my females has two litters at most. Every litter is carefully planned with health, temperament and the lowest possible inbreeding in mind.

Breeding principles

How I plan my litters

I follow the breeding rules of the breed's country of origin (the Netherlands), which go beyond the rules for breeding Saarloos here in the Czech Republic.

Two at most. A female is mated for the first time at 2 years old at the earliest, and there are always at least 12 months between litters. An exception is possible in the case of very small litters. DNA profile, DM/DW, PCYT2, hip (HD) and elbow (ED) X-rays and an eye examination (DOV/ECVO) no older than 12 months. I also aim for the lowest possible inbreeding coefficient: COI 5g was 0.73% for litter A and 0.93% for litter B.
