Temperament-wise, Arista is a typical Saarloos female. She loves those she considers family without limits. She doesn’t seek contact with strangers and is typically reserved. Generally the city doesn’t bother her, nor do events with bigger crowds – shows, Christmas markets, cultural events. Still, you can see she’s much happier out in nature with her canine gang. As I’ve said, she loves her people without limits. Each one differently, but those who win her favour can look forward to hours and hours of hooting declarations of love and cuddles.

In conformation she’s an athletic female with a richly pigmented, reddish coat. A beautifully coloured mask and light brown, almond-shaped eyes. Thank goodness she grew into her ears, so they’re now a perfectly normal length and she no longer looks as if she might take off at any moment. They could be set a touch closer together, though. Everything is correctly angulated, and she has the typical longer build. For a Saarloos her head could be a tiny bit less square – but that’s just a detail very few people would notice.

With other dogs she’s non-confrontational, loves to play and communicates really nicely. She does play wolfdog-style, though – which “normal” dogs sometimes struggle with, and they’re scared of her. She finds that absolutely hilarious. Now and then her inner Domina wakes up and she puts puppies – especially young females – firmly in their place and enjoys bossing them about. On the other hand, older females doing the same to her send her completely giddy, and she loves it. She herself is a dreadful pest with older dogs and needs their love.

Thinking about a puppy?

Májenka is pregnant! We’re expecting the puppies from her last litter around 23 November 2026. First we’ll meet and get to know each other – together we’ll work out whether you’d get on with a Saarloos, and with me.
